(that's 12 born every minute worldwide) face a birth defect or genetic disease.
We can’t find treatments and cures without medical research, and we can’t do the research without your support.
For over 65 years, Children's Medical Research Institute (CMRI) has helped save countless lives by tackling the greatest health issues affecting children. Since we launched Jeans for Genes 30 years ago, we've made even greater strides thanks to community support for genetic research.
Cancer is caused by genetic changes and is the leading disease-related cause of death in children aged 4-14. There are more than 6000 different genetic diseases, like cystic fibrosis and deadly metabolic disorders, which are responsible for over 50% of children's hospital admissions, many affecting these kids throughout their lives.

Gifts in Wills provide Children’s Medical Research Institute with approximately 27% of our philanthropic income and have helped transform big ideas into reality, such as our Eye Genetics Research Unit, which made genetic testing and treatment for many forms of inherited blindness possible.
Donations in your Will are invested in an endowment fund, ensuring financial security to the long-term benefit of the community by supporting our research in perpetuity.
A gift in your Will to CMRI is a gift that will forever positively impact the lives of future generations of Australian children.
Your donation directly supports our research programs into cancer, genetic diseases, birth defects, and neurological conditions like epilepsy. We receive no guaranteed government funding. Our scientists rely on hard-won grants and community support to keep their research going. If the funding stops, so does the research. Your support helps transform discoveries into cures and treatments for children affected by serious conditions. You help make the 'incurable' curable.
