Elham completed her PhD in cell biology focusing on ocular diseases at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in collaboration with the Queensland Eye Institute (QEI).
During her PhD, she conducted research on a potential mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC) therapy for corneal repair. This involved optimising methods for isolation and propagation of MSCs from human limbal tissue, and co-culturing the cells with corneal epithelial cells on various biomaterials such as silk fibroin membrane.
In 2023, Elham joined the Stem Cell Medicine Group at the Children’s Medical Research Institute as a Research Assistant. She is currently involved in various exciting projects on retinal organoids within the team.
In her spare time, Elham enjoys gardening, cooking, catching up with friends, and visiting nature.
