Elena was born in San Sebastián, in the Basque Country, located in the north of Spain. She moved to Pamplona to study the Bachelor in Biochemistry at the University of Navarra. She did her bachelor thesis at Centro de Investigación Médica Aplicada (CIMA) focused on AAVs with renal tropism.
After completing her bachelor’s, Elena moved to Nijmegen, The Netherlands, to study the master’s in biomedical sciences at Radboud University. She did her first internship at the Experimental Rheumatology department at Radboud University Medical Center in Nijmegen, working on sex differences in osteoarthritic pain.
As she was passionate about the AAV field, she joined TVRU in January 2023 to do her master thesis, focused on cell type-specific AAV capsid development.
Elena is currently working as a research assistant to continue investigating in the AAV field.
